Some
people suggest to “wine them and dine them.” I, on the
other hand, suggest that you “wine them and cheese them.”
Wine and cheese gifts are some of the best, most tasty gifts that
you can give.
Wine and cheese gifts are excellent gifts to give, because the
two main components, wine and cheese, play so nicely off of one
another. In fact, this fine drink and food have been paired together
for so long, it only makes sense that they would join up together
for some sensational wine and cheese gifts.
If you are thinking of giving wine and cheese gifts, there are
a few things that you should consider. Namely, you need to know
which wines go with which cheeses, and vice versa. If you search
long and hard enough, you will find that there is a cheese to go
with every wine… this is one of the reasons why it is so common
to pair the two.
Of course, that being said, cheese and wine do not always compliment
each other so nicely. In fact, creamy cheeses can coat the palate,
making it more difficult to fully taste and therefore fully appreciate
certain wines. In fact, if you are serving a really rich, creamy
cheese, it is a good idea to keep your best bottle of red wine corked…
you will be able to appreciate it much more if you serve it with
something else.
There are some generally rules to follow when giving wine and cheese
gifts. A basic guide is that if you want to give a rich and creamy
cheese, then you should pair it with a white wine. If, on the other
hand, you would rather give a red wine, pair it with a hard or semi-hard
cheese.
This is because white wines tend to have more acidity than red
wines, and this acidity is needed to cut through the cheese fat
coating your palate! A red wine can simply feel lessened when you
drink it with creamy cheeses. Also, if you have a really tannic
wine, then you want to pair it with really hard cheeses.
It can be fun to include a great variety in your wine and cheese
gifts. This way, the recipient can play around and see for him or
herself which cheese and wine pairings are best. Besides, in the
end, the best pairings are completely up to individual tastes.
There are certain tried and true pairings, though, that you can
incorporate into your wine and cheese gifts. For instance, Sauvignon
Blanc paired with goat cheese is an excellent combination. Gruyere
also goes well, with a Sauvignon Blanc, but you may want to try
pairing it with a Chardonnay, as well.
Again, the best wine and cheese gifts are simply a matter of taste.
Give the recipient your favorite pairings or a few odd pairings
to try. If you have no clue where to begin, research which wines
go best with which cheeses and vice versa!
