There
are a wide variety of sympathy
gifts out there in the world, because there is a wide
variety of ways in which people deal with loss. When someone has
lost a loved one – whether that loved one is a son, spouse,
or even a cat – it is important to show that someone how much
you care and that you are there for support.
One of the best ways to show this caring is by giving sympathy
gifts. Although a sympathy gift may seem like a small token of the
sentiment that you feel, it is always the thought that counts.
Some of the most basic sympathy gifts include flowers and foods,
but there are many other, interesting possibilities out there.
Here are some of the most interesting ideas for sympathy gifts
that I have found:
Cremation Urn Jewelry. There are some absolutely beautiful pieces
of jewelry out there that can be worn in direct remembrance of a
loved one. You can choose from necklace pendants shaped like teardrops,
crosses, hearts, and other shapes. Each piece of cremation urn jewelry
has a small hollow to place a tiny portion of the cremated remains,
dried ceremonial flowers, or a lock of hair. A person can wear this
sympathy gift close to his or her heart, or it can be displayed
in a glass dome.
Memorial Gift Tree. Every day that a bereaved person looks out and
sees a memorial gift tree is another day to remember the lost loved
one. There is nothing quite like another life to help someone remember
a lost life. A memorial gift tree is a kind and beautiful sympathy
gift.
Photo Frame. It is important to keep photos of a lost loved one
around. Not everything should be quickly dispensed of as soon as
a person dies… it may help in the short term, but definitely
not in the long term. Keeping an image of a loved one around can
do wonders. If you give a photo frame as a sympathy gift, consider
buying one and having it engraved or buying one with a meaningful
quote or saying.
An indoor flower or plant. Cut flowers are nice to have around while
they last, but cut flowers eventually die. That is why a potted
indoor flower or plant might be the better idea for a good sympathy
gift. And just like the memorial gift tree, every day that a potted
plant is a beautiful, living reminder of a person who has been lost
and who is deeply missed.
A Memorial Stepping Stone. A stepping stone is a beautiful addition
to a garden, and it also makes a great sympathy gift, especially
for someone who loves to garden. You can choose from many different
quotes and sayings to place on the stepping stone, or you may just
choose to engrave the name of the person who is so deeply missed.
It is nice to have a memorial that is closer to home than the cemetery…
