When
I give retirement
gift baskets, I try to really focus on where the recipient
will be going in life, not where she or he has been. After all,
retirement is a step forward in life. The types of retirement gift
baskets that I give differ completely depending on whom I am giving
it to.
Here are some ideas for retirement gift baskets that look toward
the future:
Travel retirement gift baskets. Many people see their retirements
as a window to a time of travel that was not open to them before.
Therefore, I especially love to give travel baskets. If you know
where the retiree is planning on going or dreaming of going, include
travel books and maps of that area. Otherwise, you can include travel
necessities like a travel alarm clock, a money belt, a book for
the plane, a travel bathroom kit, sunglasses and a hat, a backpack
or piece of carry-on luggage, etc. Think back to previous vacations
that you have been on, and consider which items you were most thankful
that you packed or which items you wish you had packed. Include
these items in a travel retirement gift basket. You could even include
a camera!
Book retirement gift baskets. For some, retirement means a time
for reading all of those books that you have been meaning to read.
Include in a book retirement gift basket books, of course, and/or
a gift certificate to a local bookstore. You can even include a
gift certificate to a nearby coffee shop. Or you may choose to include
a couple of mugs and a bag of coffee directly in the basket. Also
include a bookmark, a reading light, a crossword book, and other
such items. You can even include a cozy blanket or pillow to use
during the time of reading.
Get cooking retirement gift baskets. After retirement, people have
more time to do the things they wished they had time to do before.
One of these things is cooking. Without work, a retiree has more
time to prepare a good meal. A cooking gift basket is great for
a person that loves to cook. Include in it a gift certificate to
take cooking lessons, a cookbook, cooking utensils, spices, and
other items. It is especially a fun idea to find a recipe that you
like in the cookbook, mark it, and then include both spices and
utensils that are needed specifically for that recipe.
Golf retirement gift baskets. It is not unusual for a retiree to
find himself or herself out on a golf course more and more often.
If you know a golfer who is retiring, a golf gift basket can be
the absolute perfect thing. Include in it a book on golf, golf balls,
tees, a visor, a golf shirt, an instructional video, golf club covers,
and/or a gift certificate (or an I.O.U.) for a round of golf at
a local golf course.
The important things when choosing a retirement gift basket is
to think of the specific person that is retiring and to think of
what he or she will do with the extra time. Be creative and have
fun.
