Giving
new
job gifts is an excellent way to say “congratulations”
to anyone who is starting out at a new job. Of course, the type
of new job gifts that you might give the person depend greatly upon
the type of job that he or she is starting.
Here are some ideas for different new job gifts, depending upon
what the new job is:
New Job Gifts for Someone Starting and Office Job:
- Pens – If you want to go all out, give a personalized
pen, and present it with a few extra cartridges for when it runs
out of ink. You may also consider giving one of the “astronaut
pens.” These pens allow you to write upside down. As the
joke goes (of course, the joke is true) – Americans spent
millions of dollars inventing a pen that would work where there
is not gravity… the Russians just used a pencil!
- Briefcase – The traditional briefcases of yesterday are
out. Rather, the briefcases of today do not just have places to
keep your important documents and other items, but they have a
padded and secure place for your laptop, as well. They also have
a long strap as opposed to just a handle for easier carrying.
Give a sleek leather briefcase or even a backpack briefcase if
the recipient has a long commute to work.
- Bamboo plant – A plant in your office or cubicle can
be a soothing influence. Also, a plant will produce oxygen, freshening
the air around you, ever so slightly. A bamboo plant can be a
very inexpensive new job gift, but it is one that shows the recipient
how much you care.
New Job Gifts for Someone Who Will be on His or Her Feet
all Day:
- Shoes – If you are giving a gift to a waiter, nurse, teacher,
or a store floor salesman, a good pair of orthopedic shoes are
an excellent gift. Consider Danskins or Earth Shoes. Of course,
you may want to give a gift certificate, instead, so that the
recipient can insure a good fit. Also, certain places have dress
codes that must be followed.
- Spa supplies – A handheld massager or a scented bubble
bath can be the perfect new job gifts. After standing all day,
few things often sound better than relaxing. While you are at
it, you may want to throw in a fun movie or book that the person
can relax to.
Other New Job Gifts Ideas:
- A “modern” lunch pail – A person can save
a whole lot of money by bringing a lunch from home, rather than
going out and buying one. You can encourage people to bring their
lunches from home if you give them a lunch pail, thermos, or tupperwares.
You could also throw in some easy lunch recipes or ideas.
- MP3 player – For many jobs, you are not allowed to listen
to music, but for other jobs, listening to music is the only thing
that makes the day go by. Also, and MP3 player is excellent for
anyone who needs to commute to work by foot or bus, etc.
- A book – there are many “how to” sorts of
books out there. You can go to your local library and find one
that fits perfectly with the job that the recipient has gotten.
For a writer, you can give a book on grammar or a dictionary or
any other reference book that will be useful, for example.
There are, of course, many other new job gifts and gift idea possibilities.
To think of a great one, just consider the person you are giving
it to and what sort of job he or she is starting. Even if you feel
like giving something that seems rather off-the-wall, once you explain
the connection to the job, it can be an excellent gift.
For instance, if you want to give an out-of-the-ordinary new job
gift to a bus driver, you can give a CD that only has songs that
mention bus stops or buses, etc.
