If
you are someone who is a known procrastinator, then last minute
holiday gift ideas are likely the only sort of gift ideas that you
can ever use, right? It is a good idea to have a list of last minute
holiday gift ideas handy for any time you procrastinate or forget
to shop for gifts.
The best last minute holiday gift ideas are ones that seem like
they took a long time to come up with – you most certainly
do not want the recipient to be able to tell just by looking at
the gift that you did not put any thought behind it!
One way to make a last minute gift look like it is based on a whole
lot of thought is to wrap it up beautifully yourself (if the store
does it, it may look nice, but it may also be more apparent that
you were feeling rushed). It is sad but true – appearances
are everything.
Also, be sure to include a card. Include in the card something
like, “When I saw this, I thought of you,” or “I
know that this will help you out a lot in the kitchen,” or
any other message to personalize the gift and show that you were,
indeed, thinking of the recipient when you bought it.
Try not to impulse buy. This can be difficult not to do, especially
when you are feeling rushed to find a gift. If you see something
that you think will work, step back and think for a moment, “Will
she really like this? Will she really use this? Am I spending more
money simply out of guilt and because I'm feeling rushed?”
All right, enough tips, here are some last minute holiday gift
ideas:
- Valentine's Day – This holiday is the poster child
for last minute holiday gift ideas, and usually those last minute
ideas include chocolate, roses, and a teddy bear. These are fine
gifts, but try to stay away from them! Instead of roses, give
exotic flowers or a favorite flower of the recipient. Instead
of chocolate, give a gift certificate to a restaurant. And instead
of a teddy bear, take him or her to the zoo!
- Thanksgiving Day – Luckily, Thanksgiving is not a day
that normally requires gifts; therefore, you can get away with
just about anything. Give a book and press colored autumn leaves
between the pages. Give a cornucopia basket full of apples and
goodies.
- Winter Holidays – Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah,
or another winter holiday, you will likely need a long list of
last minute holiday gift ideas, especially since you might have
a long list of people to give to. Remember that gift certificates
are often preferred to cash – they are more personal. Give
a potted plant instead of cut flowers. Give a good book –
winter is a great time for reading!
- Easter – The typical sort of gift for Easter is an Easter
basket, and there is not reason to stray from this. Give an Easter
basket, but do not buy one of the cheap ones from the grocery
store. Instead, pick out a variety of candy – not just Easter-specific
candy, but candy you know the recipient will enjoy – and
also throw in a cute bunny. Better yet, throw in a couple of tickets
to a play or sporting event, etc.!
