Kid
birthday gifts do not need to be expensive. In fact, it is quite
possible to find some very reasonably priced kid birthday gifts
if you just shop smartly and if you are a little creative.
Here are some inexpensive kid birthday gifts ideas:
• Coloring books and crayons. To make this more personal,
you can even have your child contribute a few outline drawings,
photo copy them, and add them to the coloring book.
• Make your own art kit. Hit the dollar store or a large art
supply store and buy water colors, glue, pencils, markers, colored
pencils, paper, erasers, pencil sharpeners, etc. and put them in
a carry-all with a handle.
• T-shirt. It is possible to find some very inexpensive plain
t-shirts for children. Check for boys undershirts, too. You can
give a t-shirt and some fabric paint or puff paint so that the child
can make his own t-shirt design.
• Sun-time bucket. By a cheap plastic sand bucket and shovel
at the store. Fill it with a bottle of water, some snazzy sunglasses,
candy, sun block, and other items for the beach.
• Movie time! It is possible to buy some discounted movie
tickets through AAA, work, etc. Buy two and give them with a box
of movie theatre sized candy.
• Dress-up clothes box. Young children love dressing up. Go
to a local thrift store and find some of the crazy clothes there.
Take them home and wash them and put them in a clothing chest. You
could even go through your own closet and see what you can find!
• Swim time supplies. It is possible to find some very inexpensive
inflatable pool toys at your local superstore or dollar store. Pair
these with some goggles and maybe a snorkel mask, and you are set!
You can also find some plastic flip flops for under $5 at a dollar
store or a store like Old Navy.
• Board games. Check out yard sales and thrift stores for
board games. Many times, you can find ones that are “like
new.” Just check first and make sure that all of the pieces
are there. Games make great kid birthday gifts.
• Books. Again, you can find some inexpensive secondhand books,
but it is also possible to find some great ones at book fairs and
the sale rack at the bookstore.
• A magnifying glass and a book on insects!
• At tote bag. You can buy a plain, inexpensive tote bag from
a craft store. You can then decorate it with fabric cut-outs or
fabric paints. You can even give the child the supplies to decorate
his own!
As you can probably tell, there are tons of great and inexpensive
ideas for kid birthday gifts, it is just a matter of being creative.
It can never hurt to have a few extra kid birthday gifts on hand,
so feel free to stock up if you happen to hit an especially good
sale, for instance.
