Do
you need to come up with some great ideas for housewarming
gifts? Before you go out and buy one, consider some
of these tips for buying housewarming gifts:
- If you do not know them very well, do not give a personal gift!
If you are a neighbor who wants to welcome a new family into the
neighborhood by giving a housewarming gift, give something simple.
Bake a loaf of bread, make brownies, or give a gift certificate
the coffee shop at the end of your block. It is hard to go wrong
with food. Of course, just to be on the safe side, do not include
nuts in your food, because nuts are a common food allergen.
- If your looking for a housewarming gift for a good friend or
family member, on the other hand, feel free to give something
personal. Give a small framed photo of the two of you. You can
even give a joke gift – something so horrible and extravagant
that it will be quite obvious that you do not seriously expect
him or her to keep it in the house.
- You do not have to wrap housewarming gifts. Many types of housewarming
gifts are a little awkward to wrap, anyhow (like a plant or a
plate full of brownies. Instead of wrapping your housewarming
gifts, you can, instead, use a big bow or colored cellophane,
etc.
- Try to stay away from giving decorations. Leave the home decorating
up to the new homeowners. If they are decorating with a contemporary
flair, you do not want to give them an antique vase, etc. Besides,
it can be awkward for both of you if they do not display your
gift.
Here are some fun and interesting ideas for great housewarming
gifts:
- Garden gift – When coming up with a housewarming gift,
feel free to think “outside the house.” Most houses
come with a garden of some sort. Give the new homeowners the tools
to work it! Give them a plant, seeds, gardening tools, gardening
gloves, etc. You can even put all of these things together into
one beautiful basket.
- A night out package – As much as the new homeowners are
going to love their new place, they are going to want to get out
of it! Especially if they are doing any remodeling. So, give them
a night out – you can throw in some movie tickets or play
tickets along with a gift certificate to a restaurant, etc. Or,
you can invite them to a baseball game, etc.
- A plant – A plant is a basic item that any house can
use. Yes, I said to stay away from “decorations,”
but a plant is not a decoration in a traditional sense. Buy a
simple, basic but beautiful pot to plant it in, one that can go
with any home décor.
- A fresh wreath – Fresh flowers are always a nice gift,
but a fresh wreath is even better. A wreath is really for the
home. And a fresh wreath is something that may not last long,
but it will be beautiful while it lasts. Besides, once the wreath
you give must be thrown away, the new homeowners can go ahead
and put up their own door decorations!
- Kitchen items – Everyone can always use more kitchen
items. It always seems that we are missing one of our measuring
cups or that we just melted our spatula, etc. Kitchen utensils
are things that we are constantly needing to replace. You may
also consider giving the new homeowners some spices for their
spice rack and some recipes to accompany them.
