Healthy
gourmet gift baskets can be just as tasty as other
gift baskets. In fact, the recipient does not even need to know
that it is specifically meant to be “healthy.” Here
are some of my favorite ideas for healthy gourmet gift baskets.
Fruit gift baskets. If you want to give a healthy gourmet gift
basket, then you just cannot go wrong with a fruit basket. After
all, it is recommended that we eat 2-3 servings of fruit a day,
and many people just do not reach that amount. Fruits are full of
important vitamins and minerals. They have no added sugars or fats.
They are beautiful, and when you order them from a good company,
you can be sure that they are fresh.
Diabetic candy baskets. Generally, I would not recommend that you
put candy into a “healthy” gourmet gift basket. But
if you know a diabetic, you can be sure that diabetic candy is much
more healthful than regular candy. Include a variety of brands,
including regular brands with sugar free options, as well as items
from companies like Fifty50. Fifty50 donates 50% of their profits
to diabetic research.
Dark chocolate gift baskets. Okay. Again, I would not normally recommend
a candy gift basket as a healthful one… Nonetheless, it chocolate
can be healthful. The darker the chocolate, the more healthful it
is. Therefore, give a chocolate gift basket that has chocolate that
ranges from 50% cocoa to 90% cocoa. Give them a chocolate tasting
basket. Also, you can give fruit dipped in chocolate to make it
a little more healthful.
Mediterranean gift basket. Include in this healthy gourmet gift
basket some organic extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar,
pasta sauce made from organic vegetables (and with no sugar added),
whole wheat pastas, sweet peppers, egg plant, canned artichokes,
pesto sauce, and other such items. You can still give a delicious
gift while keeping it healthy!
Dried fruit and nut gift basket. Again, you just cannot go wrong
with giving fruit if you are looking for a healthy alternative.
Look for dried fruit with no added sugars. After all, fruit is usually
sweet enough to hold its own. Nuts are also very healthy, full of
the “good fat” and protein.
Hot sauce and salsa gift basket. A healthy gourmet gift basket can
still be full of flavor and spice! Look for salsas with little added
sugar. You can also include some tortilla chips. Look for chips
with low saturated fat and low sodium.
Tea gift baskets. Green tea and herbal teas have been shown to have
excellent antioxidants and other health-enhancing ingredients. There
are teas that are good to take if you have a runny or stuffed up
nose or a sore throat, etc. Include in a tea gift basket some teacups
or mugs, a book, and maybe even some biscuits. All right, so the
biscuits may not be too healthy, but health is all about moderation,
right?
Seafood gift basket. There is nothing quite like fresh seafood.
And one of the best things is that seafood is good for you! Send
a loved one some live lobster, freshly caught salmon or halibut,
or whatever else you think he or she would like. You can include
some fish sauce, spices, and/or a healthy recipe.
