When
giving a gourmet
food basket, consider what the recipient would really
like to receive. There are many different types of gourmet food
baskets, but while they all may be great gifts, they are necessarily
great gifts for the person that you have in mind.
Here are some suggestions as to which type of gourmet food baskets
you should give to which type of person:
Fruit gourmet food basket. The first obvious question that you
need to answer is: does the recipient like fruit? You may be surprised
at how many people do not. Think about whether or not you see him
or her with an apple always in hand! If you know the recipient likes
fruit, you next need to decide whether or not he or she will be
able to eat a whole basket's worth. If you give a gourmet
fruit basket during the winter holiday season, you can expect a
lot of the fruit to go to waste… there are so many other food
gifts that must be eaten, too. Also, if you give a big basket of
fruit to a single person, it may be overwhelming. It can make the
recipient feel guilty to throw out rotten fruit. If you do not think
that the recipient will be able to eat all of the fruit, give him
or her a dried fruit and nuts basket (of course, be sure that the
recipient is not allergic to nuts!)
Meat gourmet food basket. The obvious question here is: is the recipient
a vegetarian? If not, you can proceed. If course, you must decide
whether or not you want to give more “exotic” meat like
elk or buffalo, or “regular” meat like beef. Then you
must decide what cut of meat to give. Consider whether the recipient
prefers to grill his or her meat. In fact, if you think about it
and realize that he or she does not like to cook at all, a fresh
meat gift may not be the best choice! It most certainly has to be
cooked.
Chocolate gourmet food basket. All right. So, everyone loves chocolate,
right? But not everyone has the same tastes in chocolate. If you
do not know whether or not the recipient prefers milk chocolate
over dark or creams over chews, be sure to include a variety. You
can be sure that any particular chocolates that are not eaten by
the recipient will still get eaten! If you know someone who like
dark chocolate, consider giving a dark chocolate “sampling.”
Include chocolates from 50% cocoa to 90%. If the recipient is diabetic,
that is not a problem. There are many great diabetic, sugar-free
candies that you can include, instead.
Italian gourmet food basket. This makes a great gift for most people…
as long as they are not on the Atkin's diet! There are many
different things that you can include in this type of gourmet food
basket. This can be a great gift for someone who does not really
like to cook: there are many Italian food baskets that come with
items that simply need to be heated, boiled, or opened. This way,
the recipient can still have a gourmet meal, but without having
to do much!
Hot sauce and salsa gourmet food basket. If the recipient has a
high tolerance for spiciness (and pain), give him or her some very
spicy hot sauces. If, on the other hand, he or she does not (or
you are unsure), be sure to include mild and medium salsas, as well.
Again, you can always get away with including a variety… give
a mild, medium, and hot salsa!
