Some
people think that picking out gifts for kids is easy. After all,
many kids are simply excited to rip open the wrapping paper and
to play with that. It only makes sense that they will be even more
excited by whatever the wrapping paper had been hiding.
That being said buying gifts for kids can be very tricky once the
child reaches a certain age and feels it is his or her duty to hate
everything that you give, before the wrapping paper has even been
removed!
Anyhow, I think that picking our gifts for kids is really tricky.
This is because I am not simply looking for a toy that will provide
the most fun. I am not even looking for gifts for kids that will
provide the most educational use. What am I looking for?
I am looking for potential dangers when I am searching for gifts
for kids.
I cannot help it! Practically any toy that I see, I see as a potential
choking hazard. Other toys I see as possible implements of eye injuries.
It is true. I look at gifts for kids as though they are weapons
for kids. Yes, there are, of course, certain safety standards set
up for toys, but there are still some toys that slip through the
cracks. You still hear about toys being recalled. You still hear
about injuries and even some deaths associated with certain toys
and other gifts for kids.
So, if you are picking out some toys to give as gifts for kids,
there are certain things that you should consider. First of all,
think of the age group of your child. Older kids are fine playing
with toys that could be potentially dangerous for babies. That being
said, be aware that if you have both older children and a baby,
you must keep the toys of the older children away from the baby!
Realize that most toys are not recalled until there has been an
actual problem with the toy, so be good at checking for potential
problems before you buy it.
When buying used toys, make sure that they have all of the pieces
and that all pieces are firmly attached. Check and make sure that
it has not been recalled.
Other problems with gifts for kids are not the actual gifts themselves,
but the way in which they are packaged. Immediately throw away the
plastic of a shrink-wrapped toy. Even ribbons, bows, an holiday
wrapping can be hazardous.
And just because the toys you bought a year ago were safe then,
it does not mean that they still are. Regularly inspect the toys
of your children to make sure that there are not broken.
Stay away from gifts for kids that have long strings or cords –
they can strangle a child.
There are many different guidelines to follow when picking out
safe gifts for kids. Many potential dangers you can figure out yourself
if you simply think about it.
