Garden
gift baskets make excellent gifts for any avid gardener.
After all, many of us enjoy gardening… as long as we differentiate
between yard work and gardening. Gardening is a treat; yard work
is a task.
By giving a gardener a garden gift basket, you will be giving him
or her the tools to make gardening a very pleasant task. There are
many different options as to what you can put into a garden gift
basket.
Here are some of my favorite items to include in garden gift baskets:
Gardeners hand lotion. Gardeners work a lot with their hands…
in the dry-caking mud and harsh sunlight and wind. The hands of
gardeners can become quite chapped and overworked from outdoor exposure.
A good lotion, though, like The Thymes Gardener Hand Lotion or even
bag balm, can really help soothe and soften their hands. It is an
excellent, and often overlooked item to include in a garden gift
basket.
Gardening gloves. Gardening gloves are, perhaps, the first line
of defense for the hands… the better the gardening gloves,
the less the gardeners hand lotion must be used. Some of the best
gloves are leather ones: they are very durable and naturally offer
grip. Gloves with a cloth back will keep the hands cool. Cotton-lined
rubber gloves are perfect for wet and muddy places. The better the
gloves, the less often they will have to be replaced. Throw in an
extra pair or two, just in case!
Garden hand tools. Every gardener needs a good set of hand tools
like a cultivator, trowel, and weeder. When looking for hand tools
to include in a garden gift basket, be sure to include well-made
ones. Make sure you choose ones with thick metal blades and good
handles. The connection between the handle and the blade needs to
be very strong so that it does not break during moments of heavy-duty
gardening. Also, considering giving brightly colored garden hand
tools: these are much harder to lose!
Sun hat. Make sure the recipient stays sun-safe while gardening
and comfortable. A broad-rimmed sun hat will help keep the sun off
of his or her face. Pick out a foldable and stuffable sun hat that
can be stuffed into a pack pocket, etc. without damaging it. You
may also decide to include some sun block for extra protection.
A gardening caddy. This makes a great “basket” for your
garden gift basket. A gardening caddy is great for toting around
gardening tools and other gardening items. Why not make sure your
“basket” is purposeful?
A bucket. A bucket also makes an excellent “basket”
for your garden gift basket. A bucket can really come in handy out
in the garden. Use it to lug water around, or fill it with weeds.
It can even be used as a gardening caddy.
Seeds and/or bulbs. Make sure that the recipient has something to
garden! Choose a variety of seeds. Consider the home of the gardener
and which plants will grow best there.
Kneeling pad. A pad can really help keep a gardener comfortable,
even while down on hands and knees for extended periods of time.
This is an wonderful item to include in garden gift baskets.
