 There
are many different occasions for congratulations
gifts. You may decide to give congratulation gifts
for the birth of a baby, a graduation, a wedding, a job promotion,
or for any other major (or minor) step in the life of a person or
couple.
- A lucky bamboo plant – In feng shui, bamboo is considered
to be lucky because the word for both bamboo and prayer sound
alike. To ensure that the lucky bamboo plant that you pick out
really is lucky, choose a plant with 3 or 8 stalks – both
are lucky numbers in feng shui. If you choose one with 8 stalks,
2 of the stalks should be curly. A lucky bamboo plant is a perfect
item to give a person luck in his or her next endeavor.
- Champagne – nothing says “congratulations”
quite like champagne! You will find that a bottle champagne goes
along well with any occasion. There is no better way to celebrate
than breaking open a bottle of champagne. If you choose to give
a bottle of champagne as a congratulations gift, you may want
to consider giving it in a nice bucket, with chocolate, and strawberries,
etc. If you are giving champagne as a wedding congratulations
gift, you may want to add a few other items for the honeymoon.
Be creative!
- New home gift basket – If you are congratulating a person
or a couple on getting a new home, a great congratulation gift
is a basket full of useful home items. You could stick with different
themes. For instance, you may want to give items that can be used
for cleaning the house, or you could give useful kitchen utensils.
Or, perhaps, you may want to give easy-to-make food items so that
the couple does not have to worry about unpacking all of their
kitchen items right away!
- Pen – to congratulate a person on a new job, you may
want to give him or her a nice pen. Go ahead and personalize the
pen with his or her name or initials, as well.
· Balloons – normally, I would not suggest that you
give balloons as a gift. After all, balloons are just as fleeting
as but not as beautiful as flowers. But, if you are wanting to
come up with a great congratulations gift, nothing can seem more
festive than a lot of balloons! A little confetti is a nice (but
messy) touch, as well.
- Gift certificate – a gift certificate is often a great
congratulations gift for many different reasons. It is more personal
than money, but still allows the recipient the freedom to spend
it as he or she sees fit. A gift certificate to a restaurant or
a movie is a great congratulations present for any couple that
is expecting – you can let them know that it might be one
of the last real “dates” that they will be able to
go on for a while!
- Luggage – if your child has just graduated from high
school, what better present than a nice set of luggage to send
him or her on his way to college (and out of your house!) If you
are not yet ready to send your child packing, a computer is also
an excellent gift to get him or her ready for college and paper-writing.
Pretty much, when you are giving congratulation gifts, you can
give just about whatever you want. However, it is especially nice
if you can tie your congratulation gift into something in the recipient's
life. And realize that a congratulation gift is often more of a
“nice job with this step of your life, now you need to continue
on to the next step.”
