When
most people think of baby gifts, they probably think of cute little
onesies and tiny socks and hats and baby books, etc. Not everyone
thinks of safety baby gifts. But as a mother, I know that baby safety
is always on the top of my mind, and the baby gifts that I appreciated
the absolute most were safety gifts.
Here are some of my favorite baby gifts for baby safety:
• The BebeSounds Fever Monitor – with this wonderful
device, you can take the temperature of your baby without actually
disturbing him. Simply clip the fever monitor to his pajamas or
diaper. If the temperature of the baby goes up one degree, or if
the monitor loses contact with the skin, the parents will hear a
beep.
• Giggle Bug Toddler Tracker – obviously, the “toddler
tracker” is more of a toddler gift than a baby gift, but it
is something that I absolutely love. You can use it on children
from 18 months to 6 years old. Just clip the “giggle bug”
onto the clothing of your child and keep the activator fob with
you. If you lose sight of your child, just activate the bug by pressing
the button on the fob, and the bug will light up and beep. Of course,
my child was not too happy when I activated the bug and “cheated”
playing hide and go seek!
• Bijoux Baby Vest – I think that it is important that
babies get used to the water. Everyone should learn how to swim,
and everyone should be able to go boating. This is true of babies,
too. Of course, you want to make sure that your baby is as safe
as possible. This baby vest ensures that your baby will turn face
up from a face forward position. Also, the collar cradles the head
of your baby as she is floating on her back.
• Outlet caps and self-closing outlet covers – traditionally,
I have just used these outlet caps and plugged them into outlets
when they are not in use. Of course, I had problems with losing
the outlet caps and then needing to replace them. That is why I
like the new self-closing outlet covers so much. It can be slid
over when you need to plug in (because of the tension and slight
skill required to do this, though, you do not have to worry about
your children imitating you.)
• Faucet Spout Safety Covers – these make bathtime safer
for young children. These soft and fun character faucet covers protect
your child from hitting her head on the faucet. There are even some
with built-in bubble dispensers. As far as baby gifts go, this is
one that both the baby and the parents will love!
• Door locks and cabinet locks – these are very necessary
for keeping your baby out of certain items. It is amazing how seemingly
harmless things suddenly seem like death traps once you have a baby!
Giving door locks and cabinet locks as baby gifts helps ensure that
that baby will stay out of cabinets and from opening doors that
he should not.
So, although you may not think that it is as much fun to pick out
baby gifts that have safety in mind, you can be certain that they
will be some of the most appreciated baby gifts of all!
